Unable to record Ajax .net

Recommended Posts

Guest Shah

Hi Folks,

Has anyone successfuly recorded Ajax pages using WAPTpro? It looks like WAPT does not record some pages (such as adding an item to basket). Not sure if there is a fault in the Pro version as I think I was able to record the same pages with the trail version???

I have the exact same problem. Was just about to look for a solution before posting the issue, but now that there is already one, I'll add myself to the list of persons who are (very) eager to find a solution to this problem.

To add my own specific case:

We first tried out WAPT 5.0. It worked perfectly, so we decided to buy WAPT Pro 1.0 (as we have to test with 10 users). However, we were unable to record test steps within Update Panels in WAPT Pro. It only recorded the steps that resulted in a change of the address line - whenever we clicked an option or button inside an Update Panel, nothing was recorded.

We used the workaround to use WAPT 5.0 (unregistered) to record our test steps, save the Scenario and User files, and then finally run the test on our registered version of WAPT Pro. However, the assumption that WAPT 5.0 was able to record the test steps in detail and that WAPT Pro 1.0 was not, turned out to be false.

Today I helped a colleague set up both the trial version of WAPT 5.0 (to record test steps) and our registered version of WAPT Pro 1.0 (to run the tests) on his development PC. He's making new software compilations every 5-15 minutes, and would like to see the impact, if any, on the web page at once, instead of having to wait days for it being deployed and tested by me.

However, when we ran WAPT 5.0 (unregistered) and tried to record the test steps, they weren't captured - exactly the same problem I have using the WAPT Pro version. That led me to think this might not at all be the difference between WAPT and WAPT Pro, but perhaps a setting (or limitation) in both programs.

How do you enable WAPT Pro to record test steps made within an Update Panel? We're using the latest .NET framework, with AJAX components and so on.

I don't think sending neither Profile, Scenario and/or Error logs will do any good. Why?

The problem is: We can't record actions made within an Ajax update panel. If this is not recorded, then there will be no steps in the profile or scenario. There will not be any error logs either, since performing no action will not give an error. The problem lies with recording the steps in the first place - not fixing any bugs in running these steps afterwards.

I will send my scenario and profile information, since it might reveal a problem with the settings I've chosen.
